Presenting the Fashion Show: Max Mara & Disaya

The amazing history of Max Mara

Being as the biggest 'fashion temple' of Italy, Max Mara has an admirable history along with its iconic hero named Achille Maramotti.

As Italy's largest fashion house, Max Mara is a name known across the world, synonymous with luxury, style and quality. Behind the flashy and noble style Max Mara has today is the legacy of a man, whom has pioneering vision of accessible fashion that lasts after many decades.

Inspired by a passion for tailoring passed down by his mother and great grandmother, Achille Maramotti founded Max Mara in 1951 in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia. The word Mara is his last name shortened, whereas the concept Max wanted to stress the brand, giving more international appeal. His desire was to produce high-quality manufactured women's clothing. This was a somewhat avant-garde idea in the Italy of the time, where fashion was still an exclusively hand-crafted activity.

He began with a line of high-end coats that were inspired stylistically by French haute couture but made using cutting-edge industrial tailoring techniques. In this, Maramotti had discovered an exciting new area of fashion. His methods created more styles, cuts and colours than ever before, allowing him to reach a far wider audience. His clothes gained immediate and overwhelming recognition, and within a few short years, the brand was opening new lines under the umbrella group of Max Mara.

More than 60 years after Maramotti made his first coats, the brand remains at the forefront of fashion, producing beautiful clothing in almost every category imaginable, from the classic to the experimental.
